On 24th March of this year, PLAY starts its direct flights from Athens
The company offers travellers the opportunity to a stopover in Iceland at no extra cost
PLAY, the leading low-cost airline from Iceland, starts its flights from Athens earlier this year, on 24 March, connecting the Greek capital directly to Reykjavik and destinations in the United States and Canada. PLAY will again this year operate two flights per week from Eleftherios Venizelos Airport, with departures scheduled for every Sunday and Wednesday.
Starting this year, PLAY offers travellers the opportunity to make a stopover in Iceland at no extra cost and thus visit two countries in one trip! Travellers can now make their own reservations by choosing Iceland as a stopover via the PLAY website, www.flyplay.com.
The stopovers take advantage of the airline’s hub-and-spoke model, with all flights connecting through Iceland. The option offered by PLAY will allow passengers to stay up to 10 days in Iceland to explore the island’s incredible natural wonders, including waterfalls, geysers, hot springs, glaciers, and the Northern Lights.
“PLAY has taken advantage of Iceland’s location near Europe to bring travelers convenient flights and affordable fares, and now the stopover feature brings even more benefits to our passengers. Rather than having a few hours layover in Iceland, travelers can make a stop at this bucket-list destination for an extra day or week to experience everything our home country has to offer. Extended stayovers are a win-win for both us and our passengers to enable exploration at a low price, said PLAY new CEO, Einar Örn Ólafsson.
Einar Örn Ólafsson, one of PLAY’s largest shareholders, has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company, withdrawing his candidacy to take on the role of Chief Executive Officer.
In a statement, Ólafsson said the company had had a “great start” but added that the business has now reached a “turning point”. “As the company’s largest shareholder, I would like to see my investment through. I am familiar with Play’s operations and employees and can see opportunities and exciting projects for the future.”
PLAY Airlines had its first flight in June 2021 and operates a modern fleet of 10 Airbus A320/321neo aircrafts, with an average age of the aircraft is little over two years.
Last year, PLAY´s crew was voted the best by the readers of USA Today 10Best and recognized as the top low-cost airline in Northern Europe, according to the prestigious World Airline Awards, based on customer satisfaction.
PLAY offers competitive prices in all its markets and strives to make travel more affordable. PLAY emphasizes operational excellence and is proud of an impressive 83% on-time performance in 2023. Choosing PLAY ensures passengers a safe and reliable journey and allows them to save more on their flight tickets, enabling them to spend more on their destination.
